Megan Herring has always loved the history of her state. While most people think theme parks and beaches when they hear Florida, Megan discovered something even more compelling. She discovered the unbolt stories of early florida settlers and everyday people whose faith carried them through teh wilds of 19th century Florida.

 

For 15 years she has volunteered at a local Living History Museum, where she has learned to churn butter, dip candles, and understand what life was really like when Florida was still a frontier. Those experiences have given her a window into the hearts of people who built the communities of early Florida.

Megan;s writing journey began like all great love stories, with her love of  reading. she has always loved historical fiction, beginning with reading the Magic Treehouse series as a young girl and then reading Little House on the Prairie and Dear America series as a young girl.

What makes Megan's novels authentic isn't just research from books—it's the muscle memory of living history. When she writes about her heroines cooking over an open hearth, she knows the weight of a cast iron pot and the sting of wood smoke in her eyes. When her characters navigate the social complexities of frontier church communities, she draws on her understanding of how faith binds people together in small towns. Her fifteen years at the museum have given her an education no MFA program could provide, and that hands-on credibility shines through every page.

 

These days, you might find Megan cataloging books in her church library, interpreting history in period dress at the museum, or tucked away at her writing desk, bringing 1800s Florida to life one word at a time. She approaches her writing with the same steady reliability she brings to everything else—showing up consistently, doing the work, and trusting God with the results. Her stories aren't flashy or trendy; they're heartfelt explorations of how ordinary people found extraordinary love and faith in Florida's forgotten past.
